UC MERCED - A flurry of second-half three-pointers helped secure a massive conference victory for the University of California, Merced men's basketball team Saturday night. The Bobcats played host to visiting La Sierra University and won comfortably by a final score of 72-59.

With the crowd still riding high from the women's basketball team's victory on Senior Night, Reggie Nelson and Aaron Laflin put on a show of their own in the victory. Nelson came up just short of a triple-double, recording 10 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Laflin on the other hand, came a single rebound short of his third consecutive double-double, finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds.

The Bobcats held a slim 28-26 halftime lead, but head coach Kevin Phamrallied the troops during the break and fired them up for a dominant second half. After hitting just two three-pointers in the first half, UC Merced went 7-14 from long range in a 44-point second half explosion.

In addition to their dominant long-range performance, the Bobcats shot a very efficient 58% from the floor overall in the second half. Seven different Bobcats recorded three-point buckets in the victory as they shot 9-27 from long-range.

The victory for the Bobcats earns them their fourth conference victory of the year and puts them in a tie for third place.

The men hit the road along with the women's team Thursday to take on Simpson University. Their game will start at 7:30 PM immediately after the women's game.
