MERCED, CA - Gang Violence Suppression Unit Officers were patrolling the 2400 Block of “K” Street when a known gang member identified as Benito Aguirre ran from them. Aguirre entered an apartment of a probationer identified as George Ramirez. Officers made contact with Ramirez and conducted a probation search of Ramirez’ apartment. Subsequently, Benito Aguirre was located in the apartment and a 40 caliber handgun with ammunition. Aguirre was arrested for being a validated gang member in possession of a firearm and gang enhancement charges. Ramirez was also arrested for felony possession of a firearm. A third person, Willie Caldwell, was inside Ramirez’ residence and was subsequently arrested on an existing felony warrant. All three suspects were booked at the Merced County Jail for the criminal charges mentioned.
